Tips for Minimizing Your Pore Size

Many people ask me about what they can do to reduce their pore size. While you can’t shrink your pores, you can definitely make them appear smaller by using the right combination of products.

Why do some people have large pores?

Contrary to popular belief, the size of your pores does not typically change over time. Large pores are an indication of how much oil you produced in your teens, when your skin rapidly pumped out the oil. In the process, the walls of the pore stretched wider resulting in larger pores. For those that barely produced oil, their pores still remain tiny to this day.

What can you do to make the pores appear smaller?

The best way to reduce the appearance of large pores is to exfoliate often. By using a combination of both physical exfoliants (Exfoliating Cleanser) and chemical exfoliants (like our Reveal 10) on a regular basis, this will help remove surface dry cells so the opening of the pores are less deep making them look smaller. Another benefit of chemical exfoliants is they get into the pores and clean them out.

In addition, I recommend applying a Vitamin C cream (like our Ester C) at night to increase the levels of collagen and elastin, which will smooth out the skin.

  1. Hi Melanie,
I have been fighting large pores in my TZone for years. After 30 I noticed a big change. They are now at the point of crazy big. I have used your products for years and come in for my facials as well as bufflight as often as I can. I belive my skin is clean from the outside. I must be losing collagen. My mom told me to check out the laser you offer. She and several friends have tried for aging. Do you think your new Sciton laser therapy will help me with my large pore problem?

  2. Hi Cherie,

Unfortunately, pores are pores and they’re genetic – they may get a bit worse with age because of the changes your skin goes through in your 30s, 40s and beyond (see our article on the topic here: http://freshandagelessblog.com/2010/07/22/what-products-does-your-skin-really-need-as-you-age/).

All you can do is keep your pores clean by using products without additives and fillers -ALA is best for this) and also try our Sciton Age Reveral laser treatment, which helps tighten the skin and pores. For more info: http://www.vasseurdayspa.com/age-reversal-laser-treatment/
